Keynote: The Science of Smart Commuting is Pooling and Telework

Session Description

Professor Susan Shaheen will present market trends in pooling and telework and the role technology is having on shaping consumer behavior and expectations. She will discuss the growth of telecommuting, opportunities and challenges of pooling, and the role of incentives. The presentation will conclude with thoughts on how COVID-19 may impact longer-term traveler behavior.

About the speaker

Susan Shaheen is a pioneer and thought leader in emerging mobility strategies. She is a Professor in Civil Engineering and Co-Director of the Transportation Sustainability Research Center at UC Berkeley. She has authored over 67 journal articles and co-edited two books. She received the 2017 Roy W. Crum award from the Transportation Research Board (TRB) for distinguished achievements in transportation research. In May 2016, she was named one of the top 10 academic thought leaders in transportation by the Eno Transportation Foundation. She is a member of the TRB Executive Committee and became the Vice Chair in 2020.
